Just when I thought Hawaii was going to be the pinnacle of my summer, I was able to take a quick trip up to the Thompson River. The Thompson River is my favorite river on the planet to fish. There is no better way to spend a hot summer day than floating and fishing for Rainbows on the Thompson.
A couple days after returning from Hawaii, we headed up to my favorite place to stay on the Thompson - The Rock and River Rustic Retreat. <www.rockandriverretreat.com> Be sure to check out their websit...

Hawaii 2014
Posted by Gary on Sunday, August 31, 2014,
Been a while since I have blogged.
I had the pleasure of spending 10 days in sunny Hawaii this August with my Daughter Madison. The purpose of the trip was my daughter's soccer tournament, however, there is always time for a fishing trip. In anticipation of this trip I booked a trip with Louie the Fish Guide Service.
Our guide picked us up from our Hotel at 6:30 am and we were on our way to the flats. The plan was for me to fly fish in the morning and for my daughter to try spin fishing for Bo...

Vintage Reels and more Reels....
Posted by Gary on Thursday, May 22, 2014,
I have recently been afforded the opportunity to sell an entire collection for an elderly gentleman. This collection spans many years and is one of the largest collection of truly vintage reels. These reels date back from the late 1800’s. Brass faced Perfects, they’re there. Vintage Brass Reels, they’re here. Dingley’s, of course. You like Hardy Centre Pin reels? Look no further.
Plus a few very unique items. A very rare complete set of carved brass reels along with their leather c...

Rod Tube Holders
Posted by Gary on Monday, March 3, 2014,
Over the years I have often seen many rod stands or holders. Why have there never been tube stands or racks? While it is great to have a beautiful stand or rack to display your tools of the trade but where do all those tubes go? Well if you are like me, you just lean them up in a corner of a closet ony to trip over them or watch them fall any time you go into said closet.
In addition, the rod tubes nowadays are not only functional but also pleasing to the eyes. It would be a shame to let this ...

As the internet and online shopping continues to grow it is great to see some "grass roots" businesses still popping up!
If you are like the many who venture out to the Olympic Penninsula, you will not find a better shop located only footsteps from the Hoh River. If you are in need of anything required to swing flies on the numerous rivers in the area, you need to look no further than the Hoh Humm Fly Shop. Along with providing exceptional guiding services, Neil and Alyssa can help you with wh...

Salmon Lake May 17th - 21st
Posted by Gary on Sunday, May 27, 2012,
Made our annual trip up to Salmon Lake with the family. First night was a bit breezy but still headed out for an evening fish with my daughter. So wanted her to get into some fish. years past shrimp seemed to be the ticket but this year, they worked sparingly. First night caught a few fish then went to the black leech. My daughter landed her first fish of the weekend. I don't know what I was more proud of, her catching the fish or her saying " Dad can we stay out just a little longer?"

Day...

Classic vs. Modern Reels
Posted by Gary on Thursday, March 15, 2012,
Over the past few months I have been finding myself questioning decisions I have made over the past few years as it relates to which way to go; Modern versus Classic reels. When I first got into fly fishing I was drawn to the "latest and greatest" and the "flashier" the better. Over the past few months though I have found myself drawn to Classic and classic style reels. I know we could debate pros and cons all day long, however, there is something to be said of the sound and feel of a classic...

A great day on the Vedder. Managed first fish of the season on the Burkheimer and Hardy Perfect Combination. This just further confirms why the "Perfects" can be immitated but not duplicated.
Been a long time since I have posted a report. Probably because I have become a full convert to the "two handed" way of fishing. Well this is how I am going to remember it...Not just the fact that my hook-up average stinks this year.
This morning I had the opportunity to get out to the river for first ligh...
